Plant I.D.

I noticed a different plant/weed come up in my yard this year. I don't know what species it is. If any of you have an idea what it is , please leave a comment. Don't be shy, all comments are welcome.

  1. This is Nightshade. Contrary to popular lore, it is not poisonous. But Belladona, which looks similar, is. Some differences are, Nightshade berries grow in clusters, Belladonna berries grow solo and are shiny....Nightshade has white star shaped flowers and Belladonna has bell shaped purple flowers....there are more differences and you can read all about the differences and how to harvest and eat Nightshade in a great book called Natures Garden by Samuel Thayer.  Hope that helps a bit.  We have a bunch in our yard.

  2. Thanks Jamaican Mama,
I had a feeling it might be a Nightshade...... it made me think of a Pepper plant when I first saw it. Also, the plant next to it had small white flowers. Thanks for commenting!
